Girl Rising isn’t a movie for just a few of us to enjoy, this is a movie for every single girl in the world to rejoice for.
“There is no miracle here. Just a girl with dreams”.
Girl Rising was one of the most inspirational movies I have ever seen – no lie. My mom told me about it a little while ago and I finally got to watch it. I downloaded it onto my iPad (my mom let me use her credit card), headed to the library, and watched it in a corner. I probably should have watched it in my room because I did cry a few times, but it was really peaceful in the library and I found it symbolic to be in a place of learning and education while I watched.
The movie tells the stories of nine girls from different parts of the world who face arranged marriages, child slavery, and other things we are really lucky to not have to face here in Canada for the most part. It really made me appreciate growing up here in Calgary – I mean, we have so many things here we take for granted. Like schools – education is free for us and not far from where we live. We get to do things like dance class, yoga, sports and all kinds of other clubs and activities that teach us different skills. I don’t think we think about that stuff as much as we should and take advantage of the opportunities. This movie definitely reminded me how good it is to live in Canada!
