I don’t know about you, but the thought of washing my hair is enough to keep me in bed most mornings. Given the choice, I’d take an extra 10 minutes of sleep over the pain that is washing, drying and styling my hair.
Unfortunately, I’m the kind of girl whose hair develops greasy roots by the end of the day, so I have to do something about it. I know I could use any one of the variety of dry shampoos available at drug stores or beauty shops, but the number of weird chemical ingredients always makes me nervous.
So what do I do? I make my own dry shampoo!
To be honest, it’s super simple and cheap. You’ll wonder why you haven’t tried it sooner!
Here’s what you need:
- ¼ cup of corn starch
- A few drops of your favourite essential oil (I like the refreshing feeling of peppermint or the relaxing scent of lavender)
Yes, that’s really all! Mix the two thoroughly and BOOM! You have homemade dry shampoo. I use a full brush (like a powder or kabuki brush) to apply to my roots at night. When I wake up, the oil in my hair has absorbed the starch, leaving me with fresh roots and some good volume.
Note: If you’ve got dark hair, you can mix in two tablespoons of cocoa powder for a darker powder. Though, be warned, the smell of the cocoa and peppermint combo will have you craving a peppermint mocha all day!
I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make my own dry shampoo the first time I tried it. I think you’ll be surprised by how simple it is, too! So enjoy those extra few minutes relaxing in bed and those extra dollars you’ll save. If you give it a try, let me know on Facebook or Twitter if it works for you!
