I don’t know about you but I am a HUGE fan of Master Chef and even more of last year’s winner Christine Ha! My Dad and I love to cook and watch cooking shows together especially Master Chef. I thought Christine is such an inspiration to women and girls alike and wanted to share with you her story.
Christine is not only an amazing self-taught cook and winner of Season 3 Master Chef she is also super smart and really accomplished. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from University of Texas and a Masters of Fine Arts degree at University of Houston.
She recently received the editor’s poetry prize from The ScissorTale Review and was a finalist in the 2010 Creative Nonfiction MFA Program-Off contest! She is also an Editor for Gulf Coast Journal. Super cool!
The most amazing part of her story is that Christine was diagnosed in 2004 with Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO), an autoimmune disease in which a person’s own immune system attacks the optic nerves and spinal cord. By 2007 she was legally blind. Despite the challenges that come along with being blind, Catherine has beat all odds and pursued her dreams with such tenacity and strength. I think she is an amazing example of what a person can accomplish when they put their mind to it!
Her cook book Recipes from My Home Kitchen: Asian and American Comfort Food is also really awesome and my Dad and I have cooked a few dishes from it. I will post one later for all of you to try.
