Girls’ rights are human rights. Yet, millions of girls around the world don’t have education, life-saving health services, and opportunities for a brighter future. So today, we celebrate the International Day of the Girl to stand up for the rights of girls and women all over the world.
So, if you believe we are all equal, join us here at Girlville in celebrating the power and potential of girls everywhere! Here are four things you can do:
1. Take the pledge for girls’ rights.
When girls are educated, healthy and empowered, they can lift themselves, their families and even entire countries out of poverty! Join us in standing up for their rights. Take the pledge for girls’ rights and a #BrighterFuture – because we are ALL equal. You can even show your support for gender equality on social media, using the #BrighterFuture hashtag, and you’ll be featured in the Because we are all equal gallery!
2. Watch the world glow pink. Every year, landmarks and monuments around the world light up in pink to celebrate International Day of the Girl. So keep your eyes on the Calgary Tower on October 11 and be sure to snap a photo of the pink building and share it with us!
3. Throw a party!
Get your friends, family, co-workers or neighbourhood together to celebrate the International Day of the Girl! Because I am Girl has handy toolkits (for youth, community or corporate groups) to help you host your own ‘Because we are all equal’ photo booth!
4. Empower a girl. Girls can lift themselves, their families and even their entire communities out of poverty. They can change the world, but they can’t do it without you. Help provide a girl in a developing country with access to essentials like education, healthcare, clean water, and a world of opportunity! Sponsor a girl today and be the start of a brighter future.
